The Mission House
                                                      The Mission house is
                                             located in the midst of
                         Villa Ascencion among 1500 Haitian
                     Refugees, surrounded by cane fields
as far as the eye can see.
                         Typically, volunteers have come
to Crossroads on a short-term trip and have come back
on their own to retrieve that piece of their heart that was
left scattered amongst the villagers that deeply impacted
their lives previously.
All volunteers live together in a community setting where
they cook, clean, purchase food, and deal with the every-
day village needs that are continually rising to the
forefront.
When registering to live and serve with us, all
volunteers need to come up with a project that will
help to empower the poor that they will be living
with and working alongside.
Projects can range from art items that can be sold
to feed families, teaching English or Math if
you do not know Spanish, or teaching other avenues of
education if you have a sufficient understanding of the
language. You are able to set up sports programs within
the community, develop Hygiene curriculum, obstacle
courses, photographing family portraits, paint homes,
and an endless amount of opportunities just waiting to be
born!!
In many ways this is the beauty of such a program that
allows you to ‘get out of the box’ and develop your own
program.  In order to be sure that your idea is culturally
sensitive, your projects will be reviewed by our board and
we will dialogue to help bring your vision into a reality.
In addition you may need to fund-raise to help raise
money to support any items that you need while
administering your chosen program.  It is always good to
get others involved as you set out to befriend the poor.

The costs at the mission house is $50 dollars a week
which covers food and lodging.  We purposely keep the
cost low so that the financial pressure is taken off of your
desire to serve.

The community spirit is something that is seldom found
in one’s everyday path, and the time spent with the poor
opens doorways into realms of growth that are only
available to those that care enough to stretch themselves;
thus becoming deeper and more aware of the life present
within themselves and others.

A place for social action, prayer, reflection, and
contemplation.  A place that is sacred as it is called apart
from the busy, and at often-times chaotic culture of a first
world existence where one may redefine, re-vision, and
access a deeper place to one’s chosen path.

Be the change you want to see in the world ~ Ghandi
They will know that you are my disciples by the love you
have for one another ~ Jesus
